Lawrence Max Roth, MD,
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and pathologist, passed away on September 4, 2023 at the age of 87. Dr. Roth was born on June 25, 1936, to Herman and Blanche Roth in McAlester, OK. He was a 1957 graduate of Vanderbilt University and a 1960 graduate of Harvard Medical School. He proudly served the United States in the Army until 1967.
Dr. Roth served in the department of Pathology at Indiana University for 30 years. As a pathologist, he diagnosed illness for many patients and contributed to teaching and research in pathology. He was a longtime member of Congregation Beth-El Zedeck, loved music, the arts, and sports, and among other interests, he was an avid pool player.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Roth Hart of Indianapolis; his son, Rabbi David Josef Roth (Jessica Abrahams) of Cambridge, MA; his four grandchildren, Robert and Jason Hart and Benjamin and Hanna Roth; and his brother, Sanford Irwin Roth of Chatham, MA. His dear wife of 58 years, Ann-Katrin Roth, preceded him in death in April of 2023.
Funeral services will be on Friday, September 8, 2023, at Aaron-Ruben-Nelson Funeral Home, 11411 N. Michigan Road at 11:00 AM. Friends may view the funeral by livestream by visiting CLICKING HERE. The burial will follow in Beth-El Zedeck North Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Indiana University Foundation for the Lawrence M. Roth Professorship in Pathology or to Hadassah.
